This week, cartographers, data analysts and music fans joined forces and mapped the hell out of every listening statistic they could find, with the key takeaways being that Bruce Springsteen is very popular in New Jersey and R. Kelly should not bother to tour west of the Mississippi River. Those maps were just the tip of the iceberg, though: Leave it to the fine folks at the Music Data Research Institute to release the most specific music data map yet (click to enlarge):
Some of these make sense (Dinosaur Jr in MA; fIREHOSE in OH), while others are complete headscratchers (who knew WV was teeming with Opal fans?). Thoughts? Outrages? Leave 'em in the comment area below.
